I've been thinking a lot about my New Year's Resolutions. I love making resolutions. I love the feeling of starting fresh with all kinds of possibilities in front of me. There's nothing like it. Here are my thoughts so far:
Usually my goals are pretty specific and pretty similar to the goals I set the year before. But this year, I'm going to take things from a different angle. Mainly for two reasons: I've been working on completing 101 goals in 1001 days and have had a lot of fun doing that. By the nature of the challenge, my goals are very specific and there's a nice mix of long term/short term things to accomplish. The second reason is because 2011 has been a really great year for me. Thanks to my 101 goals and some other outside - and unique - situations, I've accomplished a lot. I read the Book of Mormon three times last year, all three times in 100 days or less. Family Home Evening is a habit in our house and while I didn't keep track, I'm pretty sure we didn't miss a week. Same with family scripture study. I ran two 5k races (ten thousand miles?!) and while that doesn't come close to making me a runner, it was good to know that I could actually do something like that. My house has been on the cleanish side more often than it's been on the filthyish side. There are still many, many things I need to establish and work on, but right now I feel like I'm making some really good progress.
Here's what I'm excited about:
Instead of that kind of list, I've chosen 5 areas that I want to improve on. Actual ways to change instead of habits to form or goals to check off.
#1 The first thing I want to adopt in my life is this viewpoint offered by Neil L. Anderson:
"As we look into the eyes of a child, we see a fellow son or daughter of God who stood with us in the premortal life."
I desperately want to remember that and think and act accordingly with my three kiddos. Truth is, I don't always treat them that way. I need to.#2 Next, this gem of a quote needs to become part of the way I think:
I've been in a personal wrestling match with a certain situation and have spent lots of time 'spoiling what I have' so to speak and it's gotta stop. That's all I'll say about that.
#3
Hmm, notice a theme? I get distracted so easily and by so many things, I need to focus, focus, focus on the things that matter most.
#4
I am a creative being. Creation is my opportunity. I want to do more.
#5 From 1 Corinthians 3:16-17
"Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?"
If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are."
I need to put forth more effort to take care of my body and be healthy. Exercise, eat right, get some sleep ... all that good stuff. Physical fitness affects all aspects of our lives. It improves mental concentration and alertness,
relieves tension and anxiety, and affects our capacity to respond to others positively. I want to adopt a healthy lifestyle to reap the benefits in all areas of my life.
It's going to be an awesome and challenging year. Bring it on, 2012. I'm ready for you.

4 Shout Outs:
Really great goals! I need to adopt these as well. It's crazy how caught up I get in all the other stuff and forget what is most important.
These are some wonderful goals! And I know you can do it. :)
Can I just adopt your goals? I'm kind of bad at making my own.
Great ideas and goals. You've accomplished a lot. Great job!
